Medigovich collection, 1881-1974.

Correspondence, financial records, legal documents, official City records, ordinances, contracts, ledgers, election materials, research notes, printed material and photographs relating to operations of the City of Tombstone (1881-1917), the Tombstone Restoration Commission (1959-1974), and other related topics collected by Medigovich. There are also various collections concerning the people, organizations and businesses of Tombstone. City documents include reports to the Mayor and Council from various departments, personnel appointments and dismissals, land transactions, petitions from citizens about issues such as unpassable streets, public drunkeness and prostitution, and documents from the elections process. Other collections include invoices and receipts of J. Goldwater & Co. Merchants, and documents of the Ancient Order of Workmen among others. There are also correspondence and invoices, mostly in Chinese, from the business of Yee Wee, a grocer in Elfrida. Others represented include John Slaughter, James Wolf, and John F. Ross. The Restoration Commission materials include financial reports, plans of the Arizona State Parks Board, correspondence and printed material including material of Edna Landin, Commission President. Photographs include a few studio portraits by C.S. Fly, portraits of James F. Duncan, and more recent photographs of celebrations of Helldorado Days.

Benjamin F. Duncan was an officer in Company A of the 4th Kentucky Cavalry Regiment (Confederate) during the American Civil War. He first joined "Buckner's Guard" as a private in October of 1861 at Bowling Green, Kentucky. After his twelve month enlistment ended, he returned to Carroll County and became a First Lieutenant in the 4th Kentucky Cavalry on October 18, 1862. Sam and Theda Medigovich owned the Silver Nugget Museum in Tombstone, Ariz. from the 1940s and 1950s. They were members of the Tombstone Restoration Commission and active in collecting, preserving and recreating Tombstone's history. Biographical note: Rancher; John Slaughter served two terms as Cochise County Sheriff beginning in 1887, served a term in the Arizona Legislature in 1906, helped to develop the town of Douglas, Arizona, and was a stockholder in the Bank of Douglas. In 1883, John Slaughter purchased about 40,000 acres of the San Bernadino Land Grant in southeastern Arizona on the Mexican border.
